Limited computer access. I just sent my laptop out for the third fucking time. (srsly, don't buy a Gateway) I'm using the Wii, which isn't super convenient for blogging. The laptop crashed in the middle of many tasks Friday night (hence the abrupt vanishing act, Krystian). I had finished working on something for work and getting up to get my flash drive. Piece of shit. >:l In other news, the Indians game yesterday was way fun! Wish I could post my pics..,

I went out w/ a couple co-workers today and heard a couple things that really pissed me off. But I'm not going to post about that here. So instead I will post about the new Offspring album.
I really like it.
However.
It does not sound like the Offspring at all (except for the second track that is pretty much the same music as "Smash") and it's more pop. Track 5 sounds like that really popular Coldplay song w/ piano in the intro. Piano? On an Offspring album? I'm all about bands growing and developing and whatever, but this album, although catchy, seems like a step back for them. While the "dance, fucker, dance" chorus in "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" is super catchy and fun to sing, the slow Panic at the Disco intro was very uncharacteristic of the band.
All in all, catchy album, but not typical Offspring. I'm thinking hardcore fans may be disappointed.

New Offspring on Tuesday. I listened to the single "Hammerhead" and I wasn't super impressed. Musically, it sounds very old skool Offspring to me, but the lyrics were awful and it makes it hard for me to like it. I'll probably still pick it up. It's still the Offspring. I wasn't disappointed by Weezer's Red album. (I'm not by any means a hardcore Weezer fan but their stuff is hit and miss and I bought the album for Dave, anyway)
My next question is when the hell are the Cure going to work it out? They kept declaring May the release date for the new album. I've got news, mates, June in the states is June in the UK. Where's my new Cure?
Time for sleeps. I get up in 4 hours and maybe I'll be allowed to do my job today instead of three other people's.

My laptop is crapping out again so I have to send it out for the third time. Never buy a Gateway.
It's working right now, but it randomly doesn't, so I may be off-line for a while. If it's still working when I get back from my parents' then I'll update w/ pics of the house before we moved our shit into it. :)
So how about this 90 degree weather? Phew.

Apparently I'm June's Team Hero of the Month. That's both cool and a little embarassing because the LODs are kind of making a big deal out of it. My browser is still the best in the district and our DTL actually took a pic of it to show the other stores how it's "supposed to look." :o The best part is my kicking ass took the district trainer spot from the guy who "trained" me and I believe I am now the district trainer. I have a trainee Thursday and Friday.
I think the reason I'm so happy about the THofM thing is because it seems like it's district-driven rather than just being recognized at my own store. The little blurb they wrote up about me was kind of cute, but it seems like a hokey way of "inspiring" the other TMs because it started out as, "Michelle came to us as a cashier and has excelled on the salesfloor. She's taken on an area badly in need of reconstruction" and it goes on to say other things. But the way they worded it, "started as a cashier," makes it sound like they want other cashiers to feel like if they bust serious ass, they, too, can be a specialist in two years (which in itself is rare).
Anyway, I'm a big Target nerd, but I'm happy. I've really excelled there and I was one of four to get the highest level of review in the entire store. The entertainment specialist is one of the better jobs there and I love it. I love that I get to do my own thing three days in the week and I love how challenging the other two can be. Anyone who says retail isn't a real career simply can't handle it.
I dig that Panera has free wi-fi (since our intrawebs aren't hooked up until Friday). I also dig that it's three minutes from my home. But mostly, I dig their iced chai tea lattes.

We moved everything out and cleaned Lupe w/in about 48 hours. It was the most hellish 48 hours ever.
Thanks so much to Ed & Krystian, troopers to the end, and my family who busted ass like nothing in the world, and Maria, Charlie, and Justin. Pre-thanks to Keri who will help me paint next week.
We're living out of boxes and we don't have hot water just yet (which is why I'm at my parents') and our internet is down until Friday so we likely won't be around.
But it's done. And we have a house!
Pictures as soon as I find my usb cable. Haha.

We sign today (after many delays) so we can't get into the house until tomorrow. Which means we'll have two days to move. Again. So I'm having Dave call our landlord and ask if we can pay for a week. They've been absolutely fabulous to us and I think they'll do that for us to guarantee we can make this place squeaky clean by the time we leave.
I gave up my Friday shift so I have more time to work at the house. Thank you, holiday pay for Memorial Day. :]
We will be sans internet from Sunday-Friday while we get our services switched over. :( I'll probably find a place that has wifi and take my laptop, though. Right now, it's just a pain to rearrange everything. But! We won't have to do it again for such a long time. By this time tomorrow, we'll be homeowners and that just kicks so much ass. :D
Pretty mundane post, I guess.

Apparently we were supposed to have obtained homeowner's insurance before owning our home. Nobody told us that. So I got my policy switched over yesterday, but not our appointment isn't until Wednesday morning. So that means we'll have three ays to move. Again.
Our realtor has been so great w/ every step of the way. I just can't believe this got overlooked. I guess I'll just be packing my entire weekend off.

We bought a house!

We sign the final papers tomorrow or Friday, but everything else has gone through. It's in Massillon in a great area. We've already met the neighbors and they're fantastic and most importantly, we'll end up paying about $275 less a month than our current rent.
It's 3 BR, 2 bath, and our living room is huge! 22' x 15'. We have a dining room with beautiful French doors and a nice sized kitchen. We also have an enclosed porch (my favorite feature) off the front hall. The house is pretty much move-right-in; the work that needs done is almost completely aesthetic. However, my brother has lots of stuff we can use for the house: brand new cabinets, new sinks, new carpet, a stove, ceiling fans, a new microwave, and a new hot water tank. He's pretty much letting us gut his Akron house in exchange for an XBox 360, so we're definitely getting the better deal.
Getting our own house and getting married in the same year? Pretty damn cool.
I'll take pics of the house this weekend. It's my weekend off so you better believe I'll be over there most of the time, ripping down wallpaper and painting! I'm so excited!

"Beautiful Day" - U2 |
] |
First of all, I just finally saw the video of Justin's brother on American Idol:
He has a spot in the IMDb.com database now, though. Ahhaha.
Yesterday was so awesome. I went to the Rock Hall for my fifth time as part of the Target volunteer event and this was probably the most fun I've had up there. It was cool to be up there w/ other people who have that same "kid-in-a-candy-store" admiration for music. A girl named Carrie showed up from the Green store and I guess she was the only one to show up out of the 30 that signed up, so we invited her to kick it w/ us. She turned out to be pretty cool. The best part of the entire day was after going through the hall of autographs, you're deposited in a tiny auditorium that goes through the inductees, year by year, and plays about 30-45 seconds of music per inductee. The four of us weren't in the seats, but standing in the back and dancing and singing to every song. It was one of those moments that was so perfect and can't be reproduced. I think that's why this time has been my favorite venture so far.
Anyway, here's a couple of pics:

Targeteers!
After Cleve-o and torrential downpours, we kicked it at Olive Garden, then Justin dropped us off at our cars. We bullshitted in the Target parking lot for about an hour afterwards with Cindy and Tim, then I met up w/ Keri & Amanda at Friday's to recap the day. Maria joined later and we sat around drinking and yapping for a couple of hours before I dragged my ass off to bed at around 12:30. Did I mention I got up at 5:30 that morning to start the day?

That's me w/ my Keri (KerBear). Sweetest person I've ever met.
All in all, yesterday kicked a phenomenal amount of ass.

The Cure was supposed to come out w/ a new album this month, but I get a list of street dates three weeks in a advance every week and have yet to see them show up. >:|
In other news, Dave and I hit a goldmine yesterday. Queen albums, for starters, and a homemade pair of brass knuckles, which we have already decided to give to Ed. Sweet!
Next Saturday is the volunteer event at the Rock Hall of Fame. So psyched. And a couple of us are going to chill in Cleve-o afterwards. Good times.
The next update will be more interesting. I promise. ;)

"Crush" - DMB |
] |
For the most part, Dave & I have very similar musical tastes and I cannot tell you how utterly grateful I am for this fact. Music is such an inspiring thing for me and something that I simply couldn't live without. It is my method of relaxation, my muse, my comfort... on days that Dave works and I have the house to myself (this is rare), I spend my night just listening to music (which is precisely what I'm doing right now). As silly as CSS's "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" lyrics are, they ring pretty true (just look it up). So to have someone who shares your music taste is incredibly convenient.
However.
I absolutely cannot understand how Dave, as broad as his music tastes reach (he has a secret love of funk music), does not like the Dave Matthews Band. I can't fathom it. Of all the albums that enhance my creative inclination, "Before These Crowded Streets" is the perfect backdrop to painting or writing. And to be with someone who simply doesn't like it? So strange.
Seeing them in concert is one of my aspirations, but it'll have to wait until I randomly come into some expendable wealth. A shitty DMB ticket still runs between $75-100. A good one is $300+. However, on the plus side, I have been told they deliver and have particularly long sets. For the money, there's no way I'll ever get Dave to accompany me. I guess it's just another reason for Grimp to come up to Ohio.

Don't cry out "violation of religion" when you're responsible for raping children. It is amazing to me what kind of spin the legal system can put on anything. The police had no right to raid the compound because 3 church members were praying during the raid? This place was a "religious sanctuary"? Enslaving 12 year old girls is part of your religion?
I'm sorry for the rant, but this kind of story makes my stomach churn.

| a little something about snow |
[08 Mar 2008|03:54am] |
(It's 4 am so bear w/ me)
So the super snowstorm of the season is here. What's fabulous about Ohio, though, is not just the ridiculous amount of snow being dumped on us, it's the thunder and lightning that accompanies it. You read right. Thunder, lightning, and 6" of snow (currently; the snow is supposed to continue throughout the morning).
How silly is it that Target's policy is that we only close if there's a fire hazard? Our entire strip was closed tonight, but Target's still open! And idiots still come in to fucking shop in it! With their kids! Ugh! The strip was closed, too, except for Wal-Mart.
As I was getting ready to leave for work, my stupid lock froze again so I couldn't shut the door. I had to go back in and get a glass of hot water to do it. The roads were a mess and the light at the HoF bridge glitched and didn't give us our arrow for three cycles. The LOD let everyone leave by 9 (w/ the exception of herself and 2 TLs) and I get to my car to find it's covered w/ a sheet of ice. I start it up, clear off the car, then get in... and the door won't close again. So I have to shut off my car and go back inside Target to get hot water (w/ the remodel, we have temporary bathrooms which don't have very hot water). I come back out, douse the lock, and get in the car to have it shut properly. However, in the 5 minutes it has taken me to get hot water, there is a fresh layer of ice on my windshield. Not about to have a repeat performance w/ the door, I just let the car run for 10 minutes before leaving w/ the defroster on.
I can't wait to work in 5 hours and have the roads be treacherous, but because it's Saturday, people still have to come shop because they're idiots.

I went to the doctor on Saturday because of the stomach pains (I wanted to wait until payday, but the nurse had insisted I go to the ER immediately, which I argued, resulting in them fitting me in that morning) and turns out it was an easily treatable infection. So that's good. But it also turns out my health insurance had kicked in after all so I didn't have to pay in the first place. Lame.
Secondly, my laptop finally came back yesterday after being gone since Valentine's Day and after 3 hours of being in good working order, it stopped working. I keep getting all these fucked-up error messages and it is now in worse working condition than when I had sent it out the first time. I am so frustrated, it's unbelievable.
Lastly, now that I've had time to settle into my new position at work, I realize how much I absolutely love it. I have received district recognition four times already, I am full-time, and I don't close on weekends (which I have every other weekend off). I work Saturday mornings and I do ad-set on Sundays 5:45-2:15 so I can still to go my parents' every weekend.
The last bit of news is my dad qualifies for Medicaid in a couple of months and can finally see what it is that ails him. That will be relieving for the entire family.
Oh. The new Flogging Molly CD came out yesterday and I've only listened to the first three songs on the way home from work yesterday, but so far I really like it.
Exeunt.
